Opera 7.20 Beta Out
Opera 7.20 beta was released this week… Not many major changes other than some bug fixes and speed improvements. It supports percentage heights for tables now, which is nice. But for some reason they also added support for the < blink> and < marquee> tags. I have no idea why they would do this… It’s like three steps backwards in the progression of standards. Plus they are cheesy, proprietary tags that had no business being created in the first place.
Yes i will have to agree. The cheesyness of those 2 tags on a scale of 1-10 is about 15.I could see the marquee tag being used for a news ticker type thing but im sure there is many other better ways to do it….and the blink tag is well…..useless.

Well if its “shame on Opera” then its “shame on Firebird” too, I suppose. Personally, I’m not too concerned with marquee and blink support for the reason that most sites don’t use them anyways (that I’ve seen) and so I don’t think they really are standing in the way of standards.

I haven’t downloaded the new Opera beta yet, does it support text-decoration:blink?
MikeyC - August 30th, 2003 at 8:28 pmwell, in firebird you can via user stylesheet disable the xbl binding that creates the marquee behavior. I’m sure that there’s something that can be done about blink as well.
afaict, there’s no way to disable marquee in the new opera.
