PayPal Fee Calculator

After starting a new job where I was hired to program an online photo uploading and e-commerce site, I figured it was time to learn to program in PHP. So I got a book and read it for a couple of weeks and then pieced the site together. I’m sure I made hundreds of mistakes, […]

MT Disable Comments Automatically
Thursday, October 14th, 2004

I’ve just installed the CloseComments plugin for Movable Type on my blog. It will now automatically close comments on entries that haven’t been commented on in 15 days. I don’t get a lot of comments on this site, especially on older entries, so the vast majority of comments that I do get are comment spam […]

Damn you, Internet Explorer, Damn you to Hell
Wednesday, July 21st, 2004

I have all but decided not to use CSS for layouts for the next few years until IE gets its act together and actually supports half the things that other browsers like Firefox and Safari have supported for years.

Over the past couple of years I’ve tried to learn as much about web standards and CSS […]

Hope, Faith and Charity - Custom scenting, lotions, beauty products.
Wednesday, May 5th, 2004

The site I’ve been working on in my spare time for the past month or so is just about finished (only needs a few more tweaks) so I’m going to go ahead and post it here.

Hope, Faith and Charity

The site is all in CSS/HTML, and to my knowledge looks good in all the new browsers. […]

Protecting pictures and other files with .htaccess
Saturday, April 10th, 2004

Recently people have been stealing my bandwidth by “hotlinking” ass of the week images from my site. Hotlinking means they include the pictures in their own web site, but they are actually being downloaded from my servers. So they get the pictures on their site, but are using my bandwidth.

I don’t appreciate this very much.

So, […]

ieCapture
Sunday, March 21st, 2004

If you are a Macintosh based web designer like me, and need to test your sites on the terrible mess that is IE/Windows, check out ieCapture. I just sold my old 866mhz Windows machine last week to a family that needed a computer, so I don’t have anything to test my sites on in Windows […]

Reason to shop online #11
Tuesday, March 9th, 2004

I was recently browsing Amazon to see if there was a new book out in the series that my wife has read since she was a kid and still collects, but couldn’t remember which one she got last. So I just started browsing the most recent ones in the collection, and noticed a message up […]

February Version 2: My vote
Monday, March 8th, 2004

Here is my vote for the Version 2 redesign competition.

Bright Corner

This is by far the best in my opinion, no contest. Many of the entries were very pretty graphically, but they basically put a new face on the old site. The didn’t adjust much of the wording, site architecture, etc. They just put pretty graphics […]

February Version 2 entries are available
Friday, March 5th, 2004

The entries are in for the February Version 2 redesign contest. The contest is to redesign a site every month using CSS and xHTML. February’s site was Project Gutenberg, the online e-library.

There are a few nice entries, but I will reserve my vote until Monday when voting is enabled after Paul gets everything straightened out.

Head […]

10 Reasons to Shop Online
Sunday, February 29th, 2004

Bruce Tognazzini lists 10 Reasons to Not Shop Online on his personal site. I agree with some of the points he makes, but he seems to just be complaining about a few experiences he had at a few online stores.

Anyway, I hold the opposite view… I love shopping online, and if at all possible will […]
